1. Give Yourself Time to AdjustTips for Adjusting to High Altitude

Come in a day or two before you plan to dive into the activities of your trip. If you want to start skiing on Wednesday, try to arrive on Monday. Give your body time to adjust to this new altitude. Our bodies are miraculous things, but they need to be given time to get used to new things – such as the altitude.

2. Don’t Be Too Active

If you’re not used to the altitude you’re at, don’t try to overdo anything. Yes, you can still enjoy a great day of skiing, hiking, or biking – but take it easy! You might not be able to walk as quickly as you can back home where the altitude is lower. You might not want to try all those tricks on the mountain. Your body will need time to adjust, so make sure you’re feeling 100% before you go doing anything that involves your normal activity levels.

Giving your body time to rest will allow you to adjust to the higher altitude more quickly. You may find yourself waking up in the middle of the night more often than you do at home, but that’s just your body’s way of adjusting. Give yourself plenty of zzz’s, and you’ll be able to enjoy your activities each day!
