Top 10 New Snowboarder Tips
Last week we shared tips for the new skier, so it only seems appropriate that this week’s post would be new snowboarder tips. Here are the 10 things we think every new snowboarder needs to know.
The Basics
- Keep your balance. It’s important to stay centered, so keep your hips and shoulders lined up with your board.
- Stay in control. You want your feet and legs to control your board, NOT your hips and shoulders.
- Control your speed. Different turns will help you speed up or slow down.
- Bend your knees. Your knees and ankles need to give so you can feel the change in terrain and control the ride.
- Look down the hill. Focusing on your board makes you more likely to fall.
- Get a lesson! Just like we discussed last week about skiing, make sure you take a lesson. (Unless you’re someone who truly likes to learn on the fly by yourself. That’s ok too!)
- Search for powder. If you only follow one of our new snowboarder tips, this would be the one – avoid the ice! Stay in the powder and you’re going to have a better time.
- Practice! Rome wasn’t conquered in a day. Practice your new skills so you can master them.
- Take breaks! Becoming overtired is going to make you stressed and less successful. Give yourself plenty of opportunities to get a breather. There’s more time for another slope in a little bit.
- Have fun! You want to enjoy your day. Make sure you are having a good time!
