Snowbiking Basics: A New Kind of Mountain Fun
While still relatively new, snowbiking is starting to become more popular. Many people enjoy riding their fat bikes around the mountains of Colorado. It’s a great way to stay in shape! Today we are going to share a little bit about snowbiking basics to help you understand if this is for you.
Rent or Buy
Our first snowbking basics tip is to decide if you’re going to rent a fat bike for your trip or buy one. Colorado Bike Service in Vail has fat bike rentals, but – ask around – other places are starting to pick up on this new Colorado trend as well.
Choose the Right Trail
Snowbiking cannot happen just anywhere. Make sure you find a snowmobile, Nordic, or fat-bike specific trail for your snowbiking outing. While you can ride in loose snow, it’s going to be more of a workout. You can also try trails that have already been visited by hikers or snowshoers. Just make sure you are following the rules when you choose a trail. If you’re not sure, ask someone at a local bike shop. Chances are they will be able to help you out.
Connect
Our third and final snowbiking basics tip is to connect with other fat bike riders. If you see someone out on the trail, talk to them! See where they’ve been biking, what trails they recommend, and what other snowbiking basics tips they have for you. If they are local, they’ll probably be able to provide a wealth of information. And even if they are just visiting the area, they have probably come across some trails or areas that you haven’t visited just yet. Heck – they might even know of an upcoming group ride!

Ask around. Chances are that you’ve met someone who will sing the praises of snowbiking. Ask them for their favorite snowbiking basics tip. They’ll probably gladly give you one or two, and – better yet – they might have the inside scoop on the best places to try snowbiking in the area. Once you’re tired out fromĀ all that fat bike riding, stop by your Breckenridge Rental lodging for a great night sleep.
