The story of Breckenridge is one of interest and dates back to the summer of 1859, when miners discovered gold along the Blue River near Breckenridge, Colorado. The history of Breckenridge is definitely a rich one!
General George E. Spencer created the town of Breckenridge in 1859, naming it Breckinridge after the United States Vice President at the time. Through the years, the town grew, and when the civil war began in 1861, the name of the town was changed to Breckenridge as the Vice President sided with the Confederates.
From the founding of the Methodist Church in 1870, to the railroad station in 1908, to the Denver Hotel established in 1898 (fine Breckenridge lodging then and Breckenridge rentals now!) – Breckenridge has always been a town of adventure and excitement.
